Nine cadets from the National Capital Wing experienced glider flight this past weekend.
Cadets from Mount Vernon, Fairfax, Andrews, and Tuskegee squadrons spent the day at Louisa County Airport near Lake Anna, Va.
For most of the cadets it was not only their first glider flight, but also their first time in a Civil Air Patrol aircraft.
“It was cool, it was almost noiseless,” said Cadet Kyle Jung.
Pilots from Civil Air Patrol’s Virginia Wing volunteered over five hours of their time to fly the tow plane and glider.
Each glider flight began with release from the tow plane at an altitude of 3500 ft and lasted for about 15 minutes before landing on the grass strip back at Louisa Airport.
“It was lots of fun,” said Cadet Alexander Johnson. When asked about the best part of the flight, Johnson replied, “probably the landing.”
