VFW presents awards to MVCS cadets

On August 30, two cadets from the Mt. Vernon Composite Squadron (MVCS) of the Civil Air Patrol were presented with awards from a local Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) post.

Post Commander Gary Kelch of Post 7327 in Springfield, Va. recognized the winning officer and noncommissioned officer of MVCS squadron with the annual award.

C/Capt Joseph Frech earned the award in the officer category and C/SMSgt James Hildebrand received the noncommissioned officer award.

Cadets are selected for the award based on a number of factors including academic achievement, patriotism, character, and military bearing.

MVCS has 38 cadets who meet every Thursday evening at the D.C. National Guard Armory on Davison Army Airfield.
